The graphs at the top of Example 6 make sense. For people with a low skill level, their bowling ball will be all over the lane, so there is a wide dispersion. For people with a high skill level, they will hit the head pin with almost every throw, so there is a narrow dispersion. Notice that the graphs are normal distributions because they are bell-shaped. For more information on dispersion and normal distributions, see Section 9.3 pages 424 and 426.
