Local Mathematics Author Dr. Ron Larson Set to Appear on Good Morning Erie

Erie, Pennsylvania, February 7, 2012 --- Leading math author Dr. Ron Larson will be appearing as a guest on "Good Morning Erie," which airs on WJET-TV, on March 28th to talk about his newest book, "Math & YOU: The Power and Use of Mathematics."

Larson will be discussing the importance of quantitative literacy in mathematics education, as well as why he chose to offer the book at no charge online.

"It's important that all people in today's society are quantitatively literate, and I'm excited for the chance to let Erie residents know about this new free resource. The book emphasizes the mathematics that people use in everyday living, including mortgages, credit cards, fitness, and taxes," said Larson.

Ron Larson is a professor emeritus of mathematics at Penn State Behrend and has been writing textbooks for over 30 years. His books are currently used by more than 5 million people.

Dr. Larson is a professor emeritus of mathematics at Pennsylvania State University, The Behrend College where he has taught since receiving his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Colorado in 1970. Dr. Larson is the author of over 200 mathematics textbooks ranging in subject from middle school math through calculus. He has won many awards for his textbooks, and most recently won the 2011 McGuffey Longevity Award for Precalculus: Real Mathematics, Real People.
