    Here are some other observations that you can make about the area graph.

    • The three largest peaks occur around the Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
    • The three small peaks at the beginning of the year occur around Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Valentine's Day, and Easter.
    • Overall, box office revenue is higher during the summer than the rest of the year (except for the two peaks at the end of the year).

    The most important observation that you can make from the area graph is that there is a strong correlation between box office revenue and holidays.

    This example came from my son who suggested that I watch David McCandless’s presentation at Ted.com. I was fascinated with the presentation and with the realization that much of the "ho-hum" ideas I had about information design needed to be updated.
