I started writing Math & YOU in the Spring of 2010. It didn’t take long before the spirit and potential of the book became evident. The more I worked on the book, the more enthused I became.

All of a sudden I had a career altering realization. There is a terrible imbalance between the mathematics that is used to run our country’s households, businesses, and governments and the mathematics that we teach.

After 6th or 7th grade, the mathematics that we teach is almost all centered in algebra. But, the mathematics that we use at home, business, and in government uses little, if any, algebra!

Math & YOU changes that. The mathematics in this book consists of adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, taking percents, significant digits, and the graphical representation and interpretation of data. As such, much of the mathematics in the book is easy.

What is not so easy is the interpretation of the results you obtain with the mathematics.

As you read this book, remember that additional supporting material is online at math.andyou.com. I hope you love this book as much as I do.
